Brief
A specialist whose digital presence was actively undermining him
Karl Crick is a specialist music industry accountant with over thirty years of experience, founder of KLC Consulting and a long-trusted name among UK record labels, artists, and music industry founders. Karl came with a clear request - a new brand identity and a new website - and a problem his existing site was actively making worse: no security certificate, inbox-flooding spam from exposed contact addresses, and a visual design that hadn't been touched in years.
Insight
Prestige and scarcity is the brand, it just wasn't being communicated
The real objective wasn't a visual refresh - it was trust signalling. The moment a referred prospect Googles Karl's name, the first impression needs to confirm rather than undermine three decades of industry reputation. Research into the UK accountancy landscape via the ICAEW directory made the strategic stakes clear: around 40,000 accountancy firms operate in the UK, and only a handful specialise in the music industry. Karl was already one of those few, but his brand made him indistinguishable from the 40,000. The insight that anchored every decision: Karl's scarcity and specialism is the brand, and every other accountancy site looks like an accountancy site. KLC should look like it belongs in the world of its clients - music - not the world of accountancy.
Build
A repositioning around a single ownable line, expressed through a brand drawn from the world of music rather than the world of accountancy
The work covered three connected layers: a positioning anchored on a single ownable line - "The Music Industry Accountant" - doing three seconds of work in three seconds of attention; a visual system drawn from the aesthetic world of Karl's clients rather than from accountancy convention, built on a two-tone deep charcoal-purple and feather-light blue palette with contemporary paired typography, subtle grain texture, and generous spacing; and a single-page website built for specialist credibility - secured, responsive, restrained - designed to function as a trust signal for referred prospects rather than a lead-generation engine.
A digital presence that finally matches three decades of expertise
The site translates Karl's specialist standing into something a referred prospect can recognise in three seconds, occupies a clear and ownable position in a market where competing on breadth is a losing strategy, and gives him a digital presence he can confidently send to referrers, prospects, and music industry contacts. The brand finally does the work his reputation has been doing without it.

Testimonial
"A clean, professional brand and site that finally reflects three decades in music finance. He understood my business, my clients, and what makes my position in the market different. Listened carefully, moved quickly, and delivered work I'm genuinely proud of."
